If you are an existing employee of South Shore Health then please apply through the internal career site.Requisition Number:R-10700Facility:LOC0001 - 55 Fogg Road55 Fogg RoadWeymouth, MA 02190Department Name:SHS Executive AdministrationStatus: Full timeBudgeted Hours: 40Shift: Day (United States of America)This is an amazing opportunity for an established healthcare leader to serve as a member of SSH's leadership team that is high performing and quality focused within a system that has a reputation for exceptional care throughout the organization.Under the leadership of the Senior Vice President and Chief Quality and Safety (SVP), the Executive Director of Risk Management is responsible for the day today, operations and strategic implementation of all risk management, regulatory and accreditation functions for SSH.The Executive Director partners with:--- Department Chairs, VP for Quality and Safety, VP Medical Affairs, Chief Nursing Officer and Chief Medical Officer, and Office of the General Counsel.The Executive Director reports directly to the SVP, CQSO. Due to the senior level of this position, the Executive Director also regularly communicates with, prepares materials for, receives direction from, and provides counsel to Department chairs, and other senior leaders across SSH's system of care (inpatient and ambulatory.)Work will be performed in both office and clinical services settings. Attendance at meetings in and out of the hospital, availability for early and late meetings, and flexibility to meet frequent deadlines is necessary. Some evening and weekend work will be required.Principle Duties--- Works with the SVP/CQSO to operationalize and achieve long range goals, and ensure a system-level approach to risk management that is aligned with the vision, mission, and values of the organization.--- In partnership with the CQSO and SSH legal team, plans, implements, evaluates and incorporates the principles of Enterprise Risk Management into daily operations to mitigate risk and reduce liability. Key areas of focus include: Risk Identification, Risk Analysis, Risk Control, Risk Finance and Claims Management.--- In collaboration with key stakeholders, assesses relevant legislation, industry trends and internal opportunities, providing recommendations and plans to minimize organizational liability and improve safety. Establishes strategic partnerships with key stakeholders impacting clinical risk management/patient safety (i.e., Compliance, Patient Safety, Legal) to facilitate the successful adoption and improvement of program priorities.--- Collaborates with VP of Quality and Safety and CQSO to create a system-wide approach, infrastructure and processes for ongoing monitoring and evaluation of organizational risk and patient safety. Supports safety event analysis to develop strategies to mitigate risk and promote patient safety.--- Oversees the assessment of compliance with accreditation standards and regulations. Identifies areas of vulnerability related to accreditation standards and regulations.--- Leads and participates in relevant SSH committees, including but not limited to Patient Care Assessment Committee, Quality/Service/Value Committee and entity-specific committees responsible for ensuring high quality/safe patient care. Partners with PCAC Coordinator and Chair, PCAC Committee to ensure program compliance with statutory requirements.--- Develops standard processes to mitigate risk and promote patient safety, establishing structured communication processes to disseminate learnings.--- Employs statistical analytic methods (qualitative and quantitative) to guide continuous quality improvement efforts.--- Develops, executes and oversees improvement strategies to address high risk, problem-prone areas with defined performance metrics and resources.--- Prepares reports on professional liability cases and risk management patterns, trends and issues including loss prevention, patient safety and risk reduction.--- Coordinates and guides risk management education, training and communication programs.--- Represents SSH and serves as liaison to Board of Registration in Medicine, Dept. of Public Health and learning collaboratives such as the Massachusetts Coalition for Prevention of Medical Errors, Betsy Lehman Center and Massachusetts Hospital Association.--- Participates in SSH HICS structure and Emergency Preparedness.--- Participate in the development of system-wide policies and procedures and serves as policy owner for applicable risk management policies.--- Serves as system subject matter expert to ensure compliance with all regulatory activities (DPH, CMS, TJC, and BRIM) continuously monitors and incorporates changes/updates to local, state and federal legislation to meet reporting requirements.--- Responsible for adherence to and timely reporting to DPH and BRIM in accordance with state regulations.--- Develops system-level patient safety evaluation system to enable SSH's participation in a Patient Safety Organization in compliance with federal regulations.--- Provides basic and complex preventative risk management guidance for processes, procedures, and programs serving as liaison, consultant, and educator. Provides on-call emergency assistance for risk management issues that arise across the system.--- Formulates and recommends safety policies and practices. Directs and guides safety investigations, including collaborative case reviews, root cause analysis and failure mode effective analysis.--- Provides oversight for the management of professional and general liability occurrences and claim pre-litigation files. Collaborates with legal team in claims management processes. Serves as primary liaison to medical malpractice insurer.--- Provides oversight, management and direction for Risk Management and Regulatory/Accreditation teams.--- Develops policies, procedures and standard definitions for reporting adverse events to ensure congruence with TJC, CMS and NQF.--- Develops, implements, oversees, and approves departmental policies, procedures and systems and revises as necessary to maximize efficiency.Management Responsibilities--- Supervises staff responsible for coordinating compliance with risk management, patient safety, accreditation and regulatory standards.--- Coordinates with Human Resources for the interviewing, hiring, personnel transactions (hiring, salaries, promotions, job descriptions, etc.) and implementing of staff performance evaluations.--- Actively considers opportunities to grow the abilities, skills, and support of staff through professional development, enhanced communication vehicles, employee-focused initiatives.--- Creates a supportive, educational, and development-focused environment for all staff.--- Ensures the support and maintenance of a diverse, inclusive, and professional environment for all staff.Education & Experience--- Bachelor's Degree required--- Master's degree in Nursing, Health Care Administration, Business Administration, a Juris Doctorate or the equivalent is strongly preferred.--- RN licensure (preferred)--- CPHQ or CPPS certification (preferred)--- 7-10 years administrative experience required, with at least 5 years demonstrated competence in risk management and patient safety.--- Previous supervisory/management experience required.Skills & Abilities--- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills to lead and direct enterprise risk mitigation and patient safety activities--- Ability to collaborate and partner across all levels and functions within the organization--- Possess strong analytical skills to identify and monitor practice patterns and trends and identify opportunity for improvement,--- Requires strong organizational skills to manage many competing timetables and responsibilities. The ability to delegate, effectively supervise, and plan for the timely and successful completion of short- and long-term objectives is essential. The responsibilities of this position require detailed, concentrated effort and constant re-establishment of priorities as well as complex and sensitive decision-making.--- Possess strong communication skills to serve as liaison to internal and external stakeholders.
