currently looking for a Head Start Transportation Supervisor/DRIVER
to join our team. Agency Profile Self Help, Inc. is a nonprofit
Community Action Agency (CAA) created to help families and
individuals stabilize and secure their lives through education,
strategic assistance, and building opportunities in their
communities. We provide a range of services for families and
households across Southeastern Massachusetts Essential Duties and
Responsibilities Plan, coordinate, and maintain safe and efficient
transportation routes, taking into consideration program schedules,
while keeping in compliance with Head Start and Massachusetts EEC
regulations. Utilize software or manual systems to develop bus
routes Supervises the bus drivers and monitors in the
transportation department Fills in as backup bus driver as needed
Perform monthly onboard observations on each bus as well as yearly
performance evaluations on each driver and bus monitor. Responsible
for planning bus evacuations 3x/year at each site where
transportation is provided Work with the RMV inspector to perform
on-site bus inspections Ensure all drivers hold up-to-date CDL
licenses and DTE bus certificates at all times Communicate route
details, schedule changes, and transportation updates clearly and
promptly to staff or families Serve as the primary point of contact
for drivers and monitors, addressing any inquiries, concerns, and
transportation-related issues. Recruit, train, and support
transportation staff; ensure adherence to safety policies and
regulatory requirements. Conduct regular vehicle safety
inspections, coordinate maintenance and repairs to ensure buses
remain in safe operating condition, and track bus repairs. Maintain
accurate records of routes, attendance, maintenance,
certifications, and transportation incidents. Investigate and
document transportation-related accidents or issues; implement
corrective and preventive measures. Collaborate with Family
Advocates, center directors, and program staff to address
transportation barriers and support consistent child attendance.
Develop and implement emergency procedures and train staff
accordingly. Prepare and submit required transportation reports;
analyze data to improve efficiency, safety, and service quality.
Participate in staff meetings and contribute to the continuous
improvement of transportation operations. Address and resolve
transportation-related problems or concerns in an effective manner
Other Requirements Must pass a criminal background check and other
required clearances Must have or be willing to obtain CPR and First
Aid certification Must meet the physical requirements of the
position, including the ability to lift and carry young children,
bend, stoop, and actively engage with children Must have a valid
driver's license and a clean driving record Must comply with health
requirements as mandated by the Massachusetts Department of Early
Education and Care (EEC) and any local health department
regulations Schedule Monday-Friday, 7am-3:00pm HOURLY RATE: $28-$35
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of local traffic laws
and regulations Strong computer, organizational, time management,
and problem-solving skills Excellent communication (written and
verbal) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact
effectively with families, staff, and transportation providers
Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare reports Experience
in training or guiding transportation staff Ability to lift and
carry materials and equipment of 20 pounds occasionally Education &
Experience High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate's
degree preferred Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a
School Bus (S) certificate Minimum of 2 years of experience in
transportation coordination, dispatching, or a related field,
preferably in a school or childcare setting Experience using
transportation routing and scheduling software Self Help Inc.
