Job Description:
Job Summary The CNC Machinist II sets up and operates CNC
equipment to produce precision parts according to specifications.
This role is expected to independently perform moderately complex
setups and machining operations, troubleshoot issues, and maintain
high-quality standards. The ideal candidate is hands-on,
collaborative, and comfortable working in a fast-paced production
environment. CNC Machinist IIs are often expected to operate
multiple machines concurrently to meet production demands.
Essential Responsibilities Set up and operate CNC machines,
including mills and lathes, to produce parts that meet
specifications. Operate multiple CNC machines simultaneously, as
production requirements allow. Read and interpret technical
drawings, blueprints, and work orders. Select tools and fixtures,
install workpieces, and adjust machine settings as needed. Perform
quality checks using measuring instruments such as micrometers,
calipers, and gauges. Make offset and tooling adjustments to
maintain tolerances. Monitor equipment for proper operation and
escalate mechanical issues as needed. Accurately document
production data, job transactions, and maintenance activity in all
required documentation logs and various systems. Adhere to all
company, safety, quality, and production standards. Train and
mentor less experienced machinists or team members as directed.
Support team-based improvement efforts and problem-solving. Perform
other duties as assigned. Core Competencies Technical Expertise:
Demonstrates strong knowledge of machining practices, tool
selection, and measurement techniques. Attention to Detail: Ensures
precision in setup, machining, and final inspection of parts.
Troubleshooting Ability: Quickly identifies and corrects machine or
process issues. Collaboration: Works effectively with
cross-functional teams to meet production goals. Adaptability:
Adjusts quickly to shifting priorities and production demands.
Sense of Urgency: Maintains a productive pace while meeting quality
standards. Commitment to Safety: Consistently follows safety
protocols and promotes safe practices. Qualifications High school
diploma or GED required. 3–5 years of CNC machining experience.
Proficient in reading blueprints and using precision measurement
tools. Familiarity with multiple machine controls (e.g., Haas,
Fanuc) preferred. Working knowledge of G&M code and basic
machine programming adjustments. Basic math, computer, and
documentation skills. Work Environment The role is performed in a
manufacturing shop environment. Exposure to moving mechanical
parts, sharp tools, noise, vibration, and occasional fumes or
airborne particles. The facility is climate-controlled in some
areas, but temperature fluctuations may occur depending on the
season and location. The role requires consistent use of personal
protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing
protection, gloves, and steel-toed footwear. Work is performed near
others in a team-based setting. Physical Requirements Must be able
to stand for extended periods (up to 10 hours per shift). Regularly
required to walk, reach, bend, crouch, twist, and use hands to
operate machinery. Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 25
pounds independently. Occasional lifting of heavier items with team
assistance or lifting devices. Visual acuity required for reading
blueprints and performing detailed inspections. Manual dexterity
needed for handling small parts, tools, and machine controls.
